We have been steadily growing since our inception 6 years ago and will have 3 new colleagues by the end of the year. As we welcome some fresh faces, we decided to come up with some fun ice-breaker questions to introduce our new LBA family members. Here goes!
Introduce yourself!
I’m Kirsty - Marketing and Communications Designer at LBA. I’ve been here for a few months but it still feels like a shiny new job.
Why LBA? What’s your background, how did you end up here?
I studied architecture at the Mack and went out to gain some experience in practice after part 1 – then decided to stay out working and gaining practical experience rather than return for my part 2. I worked in a conservation practice for 8 years and in the background worked on their brochures, tenders, social media and events, which I loved. I had been looking for a career change that could use all of my skills, which seemed far fetched until the job at LBA popped up. I can use my architecture background whilst doing what I really enjoy. I’d also heard lots of good things about staff being very valued at LBA, so the move was a no-brainer.
Coolest thing you’re working on right now?
Preparing the 2019 issue of Hestia, our own magazine which showcases the practice’s recent projects and culture, as well as local designers. The proceeds will be going to a worthy cause, so it’s very rewarding work. There are also some exciting projects in the works that will ultimately shape the future of the practice.
What’s your pet peeve?
Spelling and grammar mistakes, especially misplaced apostrophes!
Secret talent that no one knows about?
I’m a dab hand at sewing, I made my own wedding dress.
What’s something that surprised you about your chosen career?
As I’m fairly new to a dedicated marketing job, I’m learning new things every day. I love my meetings with Lynsay and Jeff and seeing everything that goes on behind the scenes in terms of business development.
What was your first job?
I cleaned lodges at Cameron House on the edge of Loch Lomond in my last year of school.
What are you passionate about?
I’m obsessed with clean, minimal design, in everything from architecture to the packaging of a bar of chocolate. I’m working on our brochures and website at the moment to ensure that they are in line with our brand – small things like the font and texture of the paper are a big thing for me and they all add to the client’s experience.
What could you give a 30 minute presentation about with no advance prep?
Calligraphy – I teach classes and have done for a year or two, so have my speil down to a tee!
Who do you most admire and why?
All of my family but particularly want to mention my sister, who is only 2 years older than me but has achieved more than I could ever dream of, whilst looking after 2 babies! She is a lawyer and recently passed a very tough exam that will allow her to prosecute in the high court. Half of the time the complexity of her achievements go way over my head, but I know she’s a very impressive lady!
What are you currently binging on Netflix?
I’m just about to go onto the last episode of Stranger Things. I don’t want it to be over so I’m putting it off…
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
Sky dived, and hit my face off a palm tree as we were landing – haha!
